Ever since Kobe University accepted its first international student, who incidentally came from Thailand, in 1953, more than 3,500* international students from over 90 countries have come through its gates. Kobe University regards every one of these international alumni as "invaluable global treasure." In an effort to strengthen ties with the alumni and expand mutual growth, Kobe University launched the "Kobe University International Alumni Net."
*This figure includes research students and exchange students.
To provide international alumni, educational and administrative staff members an opportunity to strengthen their ties, Kobe University started holding International Student Homecoming Day every two years since 2002. To further promote continuous, borderless interaction between international alumni, current students and Japanese graduates, Kobe University began holding the International Student Homecoming Day on the same day as the Homecoming Day for Japanese alumni since 2006 (The latest was the 5th Kobe University International Student Homecoming Day, held in September 2008). Homecoming Day is now a university wide event for all alumni of Kobe University. The existence of and cooperation between alumni associations within Japan and those overseas will undoubtedly become important pillars to support, activate and enhance the Kobe University International Alumni Net.
